Arusha, Tanzania
In Arusha, Tanzania, it is common for public water supply to shut off several times throughout the day, often without warning. For families, these interruptions can make everyday tasks difficult — cooking, cleaning, washing, and caring for children all depend on access to running water.
One of the individuals we supported was a dedicated father from Arusha who frequently worked away from home for extended periods to provide for his family. During his absences, his wife and children often struggled when the city water turned off. Without a reserve supply, even basic household routines were disrupted.
To help stabilize the family’s daily life, Blue Pillar provided funds for the purchase and installation of a rooftop water storage tank. This tank collects and stores water while the city supply is active, ensuring that the household always has access to clean water — even during outages.
This simple but meaningful project had immediate impact:
- The family gained consistent access to water, regardless of city shutoffs
- The wife and children could maintain daily tasks with confidence
- Stress and uncertainty were reduced significantly
- The household became more resilient and self-reliant
This initiative reflects an essential principle of the Blue Pillar Self-Reliant Project: small, practical investments can create stability, dignity, and independence for families. When people have the tools they need to face daily challenges, they are better able to grow, progress, and build a stronger future.

- The Gap Between Education and Opportunity in Kenya
Many young adults in Kenya have education and discipline, but no opportunity to use it. This is why donors choose to support the Blue Pillar Self-Reliant Project.
